Installation Made Easy
Before you begin installing your K-Byte memory module there are a few
simple procedures that will make this easy and simple. Be sure to have
your system’s owner manual out and available if necessary. If you have
a Pentium machine be sure when purchasing SIMMS to do so in pairs. SIMMS
are modules that have 72 pins.
Static Electricity can damage your system and the memory module so be
sure to take precautions: ground yourself by touching the metal case
while your system is off, handle modules by their edges ONLY, limit
your movements and do not place the module down on the system cover or
other metal surfaces.
Step 1:
Turn off your computer and disconnect all cords and devices. Remove
your system’s cover. This is usually accomplished by removing several
screws at the rear of the computer.
Step 2:
Locate the memory slots on the system board. This can be done by
looking on the system board and locating the existing modules, or
by referring to your system manual for assistance.
Step 3:
Once you have identified the module slots, line up the gold or tin teeth
that appear along the bottom of the memory module with the slot. These
gold or tin teeth go into the slot first. The module will be a tight fit
in the slot. There maybe a notch on one side of the module that will line
up with a notch in the slot. Pressure must be applied to the module until
it SNAPS into the locking tabs. Modules are installed vertically and snap
into place at a right angle. Unfortunately this is not true of all systems.
Step 4:
If you do not have any open memory slots and are upgrading the memory
capacity, you must first remove the memory in your system. To do so open
the locking tabs that are holding the memory in place, tilt the memory
forward and lift up.
Step 5:
Replace the cover and reboot the system. Most new systems will auto-configure
the new memory. In other words, the system will know it has more memory
without you telling it. In an older system you may receive an error. You
will need to run your system configuration program on the setup disk.
Troubleshooting
Be sure that the you have purchased the correct memory for your system
Be sure you do not exceed the maximum amount of memory allowed
Be sure if you have a Pentium Machine that you are upgrading in pairs
Be sure the module SNAPPED into place, otherwise it is not seated properly
Some systems will require you to move the higher
capacity memory to the first slots and the older memory to the other slots. If
you have an older system you may be required to change jumper settings, please
be sure to read your manual carefully.
If you have followed these steps and cannot get
the memory to function in your system call us (800) 840-9212 for
